Aquaduct del Águila. Near Maro.

The Acueducto del Águila, (Eagle Aquaduct) near Maro, is about 4km north east of Nerja and we visited as part of a Safari tour that we'd booked on. The spectacular structure was built in the late 19th century to transport water to a nearby sugar refinery. It's still in use today for agricultural irrigation. Well worth seeing. 11th June 2006.

Calahonda Beach Surf, Nerja.

This is a view of Calahonda Beach, Nerja. Taken from the Balcon De Europa on the 6th June 2006. The mountains in the background are the Sierras de Tejeda and form the backdrop to all this stretch of coast between the provinces of Malaga and Granada. Once again, you can see how wild the surf was while we were there. I don't know whether it's always like this in Nerja. Perhaps it was just a result of the state of winds and tides at the time of our visit.

Some photos from a holiday in Nerja, on the Costa Del Sol, Southern Spain in 2006. This is the path to Salon Beach, Nerja, taken on the 13th June 2006. It was the Cypress trees and lamp that caught my eye.

The surf rolling in on Salon Beach, Nerja. 13/6/2006. The sea was like this throughout our entire week's stay. I thought the Mediterranean was supposed to be like a millpond!

A view from Frigiliana, a lovely little village up in the hills above Nerja. Nice Bougainvillea! We had a nice walk around the village on the 7th June 2006, having got there by bus.

Acebuchal.

Acebuchal is a restored 17th-century hamlet tucked away in the Sierra de Tejeda hills, between Frigiliana and Cómpeta, above Nerja. Amazingly it was rebuilt stone by stone from a state of total ruin by the children of the original residents, beginning in the late 1990s. By the time of our visit in 2006, the rebuilding was complete. It had originally been destroyed in the late 1940s after being suspected of harbouring anti-Franco guerrillas. This is just one photo of the many I took during our visit, as it was so pretty.
